I couldn’t do it. I’m not a killer.

God knows that I felt savage enough to end him. The edges of my sanity were blurred.

But even then, I knew I couldn’t live with the knowledge of having taken someone else’s life.

Just like I couldn’t live with the knowledge of Victoria being in any kind of danger.

So I gave him a taste of his own medicine. Seth Slater now lies unconscious in the same underground lair he chose for me.

There was no need for drugs. Brute force did the job. Just the right amount of pressure on his neck to make him pass out, but not so much that I accidentally send him into a coma.

First things first, I need to delete anything he has against me.

I take the USB flash drive from his gaudy gold chain, and plug it into his laptop. I’ll keep the information I need to incriminate him, and nothing else.

When Victoria was a child, she was kidnapped. They were never able to find out who was behind it. Now, I have evidence of this man being guilty. He said so himself.

What I need next is evidence that he was the one who killed Eleanor Harrington.

Every murderer needs a motive.

This man admitted to having the perfect one. He couldn’t bear to see Anna happy, so he made sure the woman he claimed to love would be forever miserable. He did so by threatening her family and making sure she always lived in fear of the unknown.

And to an extent, he succeeded.

But Anna was deeply unhappy for a whole another reason. He just ended up adding to her troubles.

And to completely break her, he devised the murder of Eleanor Harrington. He knew that it was something she’d never recover from, as the women were like two peas in a pod.

What I want to know now is, was he also the one responsible for Anna’s car accident? Did he somehow make the car swerve off the lane and straight into a sturdy tree?

Anna has remained quiet about this matter. She simply refused to speak of it, and deflected all of my questions.

I search through the photos.

All that does is raise my blood pressure. I’m shaking after just ten seconds of perusing the photos.

Seth is a simple man.

He has two folders, one dedicated to each of the women he fancies.

I don’t touch Anna’s folder. The contents of it can’t be that different from Victoria’s.

Photos of my girl dancing. Photos of her laughing with Gabby at the yellow café. The ones I’ve already seen of us at the Italian restaurant.

And then there are the photos that infuriate me.

Photos where the wind blows her skirt up and around. Photos when she leans down to pick something up.

It makes every protective instinct inside of me rise up. I want to batter the unconscious man until he never gets to open his eyes again.

It makes me reconsider my decision to not end his life.

He’s the scum of the Earth, the lowest of the low. He doesn’t deserve things like redemption or mercy.
